In the U.S. state of Oregon, Benton County is one of counties and this county was established by the Provisional Legislature in 1847. In the census of 2010, the population of Benton county was 85,579. Then, in 2018, the population increased 9.4% to 93,590. The county seat of this county is Corvallis. The name Benton was taken from Thomas Hart Benton. He was a U.S. Senator and he advocated American control over the Oregon Country.

This county has a total area of 679 square miles or around 1,760 km2. The 676 square miles of it is land and 2.7 square miles is water. In Oregon, this county is the fourth-smallest county by land area and third-smallest by total area.

There are four adjacent counties including Polk County in the north, Lincoln County in the west, Linn County in the east and Lane County in the south.

According to the sos.oregon.gov, at the time of its creation, Benton County government had two or more justices of the peace which acted as county commissioners; clerks for each court; law enforcement offices of sheriff and coroner; a judicial system including circuit, probate and justice courts; and the tax and finance offices of the assessor, tax collector and treasurer. Then, a home rule charter was passed in Benton County in 1972 and the governing body of the county became a three-member board of commissioners.
